Prof.Dr. Nor’Aishah Abu Bakar is a Consultant Public Health Physician who is the Head of Patient Safety Programme in the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She is a Patient Safety Leader and Champion who is very passionate about improving patient safety through policies, programmes, capacity building, leadership, creativity,  and engagement. Among her main contributions in Malaysia are the establishment of Patient Safety Unit, Ministry of Health Malaysia, establishment of Safe Surgery Saves Lives Programme in 2009, the establishment of Malaysian Patient Safety Goals since 2013,  establishment of PATIENTS For Patient Safety Malaysia and establishment of Mandatory Patient Safety Course for House Officers in Malaysia since 2017. She is also the Chairperson of Technical Working Group on Incident Reporting and Learning System. In Oct 2017, she produced MoH Guidelines on Incident Reporting and Learning System 2.0 and in July 2018 MoH Safe Surgery Saves Lives Guidelines 2nd Edition. She was involved in the production of more than 28 National Guidelines, conducting conferences, research, giving training and being external examiners in universities.

She is also involved in the global arena as part of the expert group in Global Patient Safety Network, World Health Organisation. Her contribution to improving patient safety has been acknowledged by WHO-ISQua. She was granted a scholarship to attend 31st International ISQua Conference 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2016, she represented Malaysia at the 69th World Health Assembly and one of the Panel Members at the Medication Safety Side Event.  In 2017, she was invited by WHO to share on Malaysia Incident Reporting Policy and System in the 2nd Global Ministerial Summit in Germany. She is a Scientific Committee Member and Abstract Reviewer for ISQua International Conference 2018 Kuala Lumpur. In April 2018, she received the Safety First Award for her Patient Safety contribution in Malaysia. Her passion and commitment in Patient Safety have managed to bring Patient Safety to the next level, particularly in Malaysia.
